Crawley (Away Friendly)

Win

12-0

We travelled to Crawley with 7 players missing through injury or other comitments to play our first game of the season against a large and well drilled Crawley side.

1st 20miutes

A slow start for both teams settling into the new season, with both sides giving away a number of penalties in the first 5 minutes.  Crawley played well and spent a lot of the first 10 minutes of the game in the Camberley half of the pitch, which was due to our poor lineouts, lack of tackling and not talking to each other (BASICS!!!!!!!!).  That said, Freddy B played well on the wing attacking Crawley on the flanks. Dispite Crawley attacking the Camberley line we defended well and held out for a 0-0 score after the first 20 minutes.

2nd 20minutes

The Camberley coaches made a number of changes for the 2nd 20 minutes allowing all members of the squad to get a run out.  A little slower this half and the lads started to play some rugby, with Andy D putting in some big tackles and Mike K kick some excellent balls deep into the Crawley half.  Still struggling to get the lineouts together, Mike K took the upper hand and with a nice miss pass out to Scott C, the game began to turn with Scott sprinting from just inside the Camberley half to score a great individual try under the posts, with Mike K with an easy conversion making it 7-0. Crawley still keeping up the pressure continued to attack the Camberley defence but were unable to convert their hard work into points.

3rd 20minutes

After a few choice words from the coaches, Camberley came out for the 3rd 20 minutes fired up and ready to start playing some decent rugby, for the first 10 minutes we were camped out in the Crawley 22, that said, Crawley defended well stopping a number of attempts at their try line. Camberley contiued to fight hard for the ball and with a couple of the side steps Mike K made his way to the try line for the 2nd try of the game but was unable to convert 12-0.  Both sides continued to play hard for the ball until the final whistle.

Overall a good performance from all the players with a number of areas for the coaches to work on during the 2008-2009 Season.  Man of the Match - Mike K

Marlow (Away Friendly)

Win

42-12

We travelled to Marlow for our 2nd game of the season, last time we played against them was at Under 10's, so only a few years ago.

1st Half

Marlow were camped out in the Camberley half for the first 10minutes keeping Camberley under some pressure, and with some good ball handling from Marlow scored in the bottom corner on the 5min mark, due to some poor tackling on the wing.  The try gave Camberley a well deserved boot up the A**E (5-0 to Marlow).

Camberley started to play as they know they can with Mike K scoring a try on the 15min mark which was made by some good thinking from John B, with the conversion being taken by Mike K (Marlow 5-7 Camberley.

We continued to make mistakes giving away stupid penalties, however, Scott C scored with some great speed, once again the try was made by John B, converted by Mike K (Camberley 14 - Marlow 5).  Camberley continued to give away penalties and lost meters due to arguing with the Ref (Guys will you ever learn), eventually the Ref had enough of the infringements and awarded Marlow a penalty try (Camberley 14 - Marlow 12).

2nd Half

Keith made a number of changes at half time and the lads started to show how well they can play when they put their minds to it.  Some excellent hands from Mike K ensured Camberley increased the score line with Lewis R touching down 2mins into the 2nd half and once again converted by Mike K (Camberley 21 - Marlow 12).  This was quickly followed up with Freddy B getting his name on the score card for try number 4, sadly Mike K hit the post (Camberley 26 - Marlow 12).  It was Marlows turn to feel the pain as the Ref, yellow carded a Marlow player for continually going over the top.

With Marlow now down to 14 on the field, Camberley put the pressure on with Freddy B touching down for try 5, this time Mike K converted (Camberley 33 - Marlow 12),  Marlow never gave up and continued to fight Camberley for the ball, sadly unable to convert their pressure and good rugby into anymore points on the board with MIke K sealing the win with try 6 and converting to finish the game Camberley 42 - Marlow 12.  A very good game from some good opposition

9 Nov 08

Dorking Surrey League 1

Win

17-15

Our 2nd League game of the 2008-2009 Season at home to a well drilled Dorking side.

1st Half

Dorking started the first half extremely well, controlling the game from the start.  Scoring the first try on the 15 min mark under the post for an easy conversion 7-0.  Camberley never really got into the first half giving away to many penalties, which Dorking used to their advantage increasing the score line to 10-0.  Dorking used the wind to their advantage throughout the half, gaining ground from sound good kicking to touch.  Camberley defended well stopping Dorking on a number of occassions from increasing the score, however, a well worked move allowed them to score in the corner to put them 15-0 up at half time.

2nd Half

Camberley came out for the 2nd half all fired up a determined to put some points on the score board, with Mike K scoring an excellent try with his trade mark side steps cutting through the Dorking defence to score in the corner 15-5, with Steve B converting to boost the team 15-7.  Dorking continued to defend well, but Steve B made maximum use of the wind advantage throughout the 2nd half.  However, we continued to give away to many penalties close the Dorking try line which allowed them to clear the ball, Camberley never gave up with Scott C kicking through to score in the corner with Steve B converting to bring the game within a point 14-15.  Both Camberley and Dorking played some quality rugby but Dorking gave a way a penalty with Steve B stepping up to the mark to slot the kick straight between the posts in the last 90 seconds 17-15, Camberley played some quality rugby in the 2nd half scoring 17 unanswered points.

Final score Camberley 17 - Dorking 15

I would like to thank all the Dorking players and coaching team for an excellent game of rugby and wish them all the best for the rest of the 2008-2009 season.
