High Wycombe 14 - Camberley A 15 |
|
The mighty Camberley u14 travelled to High Wycombe for thier second Match of the season. With the Weather pelting down with rain it was going to be a tough day at the office. As the whole squad travelled as one the squad was split into two sides, with one Full 15 a-side match on one pitch and a 10 a side match on the other. The 10 a side match showed a superb effort as many of th guys were B team players and played against a side with guys who were from the age group above, this was a closely contested match with some superb rugby being played, notable mention goes to Omar Bourak and Joe Manders who were superb throughout. The 15 a side game was a fantastic spectacle of what mature rugby is about, a slow start from Cambo saw High Wycombe were on the score sheet first with missed tackles being the cause. Camberley picked themselves up, to play some superb tactical driving rugby. This Resulted in a textbook catch and drive play which saw Jon Howard Crash over from close range. Some superb handling in the backs from Whittle, Warner and Edmundson created a great team try that was spread from one side of the pitch to the other with Tom Edmundson diving over in the Corner. The weather got the better of the game, and it resulted in there being many handling errors from both sides. These errors created a quick turnover ball for High Wycombe who shipped it wide to the wing, some exquisite solo running and Pace from the High Wycombe Winger saw Camberley go down by 4 points with only minutes to go. Cambo stayed carm and drove into the heart of the High Wycombe defense. Strong running from, Robinson, Daly and Bird resulted in a try from which Camberley won the match. A great effort from both teams in the Rain. |

Cranleigh |
Win |
Camberley 20 - Cranleigh 0 |
|
Cambo start League Campaign with glimpses of Brilliance Cranleigh were visitors at Cambo this Sunday for the first league match of the season. Camberley with an almost unchanged side went into this match knowing that a performance like the one seen against Ensians last week would not be good enough in the campaign opener. Camberley started the stronger, with some effective power plays from the pack, strong driving play up front and accurate kicking from fly half Whittle saw Cambo applying immense pressure on the visitors' line. A catch and drive and two strong ball carries later saw Camberley go a score up. The next period of play was very frustrating, many unforced handling errors and some poor individual tackling saw Cranleigh control the possession for some time. It was not until Page, with a much improved performance from last week, made some strong runs into the heart off the Cranleigh defense. This along with some effective rucking from the pack gave Camberley some decent field position inside Cranleigh's 22. A strong scrum and superb service from Hassell, playing in only his second game at Scrum Half gave Whittle the opportunity to release the outside backs with a laser guided miss pass. Edmondson hit the ball at pace, made inroads into the defense and had the presence of mind to draw the final defender and deliver a sublime pop pass to Jason Blignaut who scored in the corner. Cambo then went to sleep for the next 5 mins and gave Cranleigh, who were growing in confidence from some good lineout play and aggressive defense, even more territory. Luckily the Squirrels defense held till the half. After the break it was evident that Cranleigh felt Camberley were weak at the back, this resulted in some high balls which Full Back, Elliot Harvey dealt with ease and some! Now it was the turn of the Camberley pack, who started to play their effective pick and go 'Bully' game. This resulted in a score for Connor Hadden, who after a injury torn summer will be happy to start hitting some of last season form. With the game almost wrapped up it was now time to hammer the final nail home. This saw Camberley playing some of the 'Total Rugby' that the coaches know they are capable of. Cambo produced the move of the match which resulted in the ball moving from one side of the pitch to the other and some Tolouse style continuity play with accurate pop passes and magnificent running lines. if only the final pass had stuck it would have been one of the best trys seen at Watchetts in many a season. This was not to be the final say, Whittle who, along with Page had been in fine form all day delivered the final blow. His chip was not only accurate but timed to perfection as debutante Tom Fowlie pounced on it to seal a great team performance.
Back of the match: A Whittle With the B's narrowly losing to a top London Irish side it shows that there is so much more to come from the whole squad of players and we are improving every game.
