Magnificent! Uplifting! Brilliant! .....but that was merely the England squad in Paris the night before. Camberley U12 A's, in contrast seemed to be mostly catatonic on Sunday morning (shock? pride? hangover?) and dithered about the pitch like a bunch of geriatrics deciding which woolly to put on. Instead of behaving like gentlemen -after all it was OUR festival - the opposition rather unsportingly took advantage and won! Even the spectacle of a Camberley player rolling about mid pitch trying to remove his trackie bottoms having forgotten to undo the zips - and that was a high spot - failed to distract the visitors from scoring. (My son; I'm allowed to mock) The squad managed to rouse themselves by the 3rd match to avoid total defeat and squeaked into 5th place... ...well, we enjoyed the sunshine ...and Bobby and Mark taking pitch marshalling to new levels...and Ali's legs in those shorts.....! RESULTS (IF WE REALLY HAVE TO) MATCH 1 v Effingham + Leatherhead Lost 0-7 MATCH 2 v Windsor Drew 7-7 try- Saxon Coop; conversion Matt Fairbank MATCH 3 v Dorking WON 14 -0 tries -James Wilson, Charlie Richardson; Conversions - Josh Dominy |

Match 1 : v Sutton and Epsom - Drew 0-0 The U12 A squad's first outing of the season was against their old - and not best loved - rivals. Our squad was largely untested, with several new faces, following the departure of a number of players at the end of last season. The Camberley lads got down to business straight away and displayed far superior ball handling skills to their opponents, but lost out on sheer brute force as the S+E pack was much heavier and put us under huge pressure in scrums. S+E played their usual aggressive game, but the Camberley squad remained calm. Accurate kicking by Josh Dominy, Matt Fairbank and Michael Bradley helped us to keep most of the possession, but we couldn't quite find the line. Match 2 : v Teddington Lost 0-7 As ever, Teddington fielded a very well drilled side. Our boys rose to the challenge and played some good rugby and were unlucky to have a try scored against them as the result of a kick being charged down. Sadly Camberley missed an opportunity to equalize when the ball was on the line, but the squad showed real promise of what they should be able to achieve during the season. Plate Final : v Tunbridge Wells Won 7-0 Despite having conceded only one try, Camberley went through as plate finalists for their group. The entire squad just got better and better during this match, with excellent tackling from Saxon Coop, Calum Maciver and Charlie Richardson. At full time the score was 0-0 so the match continued for another 3 minutes each way. Camberley continued to improve and Jamie Taylor scored a superb try to secure the plate. We're looking forward to great things in the coming season! |
