Camberley Attain Level 2 RFU seal of Approval.
Matt Bray of Surrey RFU and the Rugby Football Union made the presentation to CRFC president Roger Chamberlain and immediate past president Roger Berry.
Camberley were one of the first clubs in Surrey to reach Level 1 and have continued their progress by reaching Level 2.
This award is a reward for the hard work put in by many club members who are now working to achieve the Level 3.
At the recent Players evening James Smith, vice chairman of the mini section, became this years Peter Stevens Clubman of the Year in recognition of his work both in the mini group and also for the very successful festivals held during the season. James is seen here receiving his award from Roger Berry
Alex Hughes a member of the U16s was awarded his Welsh U16s A cap in a recent International tournament held at Millfield school.

The mayor of Surrey Heath , Councillor Keith Bush, visited the club on Satureday 11th November to see the local derby clash between Surrey Heath clubs Camberley and Chobham. Sadly for Camberley he witnessed a Chobham victory.
Summary of Executive Committee Meeting held on Tuesday 1st September
After 4 months finances are running broadly on budget.
Cashflow is very tight and we are close to overdraft limits, although this is not unexpected after a typically slow summer of trading and the planned expenditure on maintenance.
Lydia has made great progress working with brewery to increase drink ranges and spruce up the bar.
Membership subscriptions now (over) due and are held at last season’s levels. We will (under leadership of Gareth Jones) apply same strict rules as last season, however we are running ahead of budget thus far..
Utility costs remain a significant expense – however MWC has successfully negotiated improved 2 years deals for gas and electricity reducing costs to around £3,000 below our forecast.
Sponsorship revenues are lower than hoped for and this year will be undoubtedly be a struggle in the current climate. Anyone who has ideas of possible sponsors we can approach is encouraged to contact an Exec member to explore.
1st team squad numbers in pre-season have been strong and a full programme of fixtures provided valuable game time, team-bonding and some encouraging performances. 55 adult players are expected to feature in the 2 friendly games planned for 5th September!
Ladies have a coach – Dave Thornley and numbers are growing.
Camberley is to formally adopt the “Blackwater BaaBaas” 7’sside from this season and make summer 7’s a part of our club. The side will be led and run by John Kaye and support from Chris Lee. We hope to run a 7’s competition at Watchetts weekend 24/25 April 2010
Little to report close season, but everything in place for start of new season in September and numbers look set to grow again via promotional activities and word of mouth.
Volunteers desperately needed to take over running of the “RugbyFirst” database for both mini and junior sections
Camberley Mini festival set for Sunday 18th October
All work now complete (at significant expense) for granting of electrical certificate. This completes all the work identified as compulsory from our Health & Safety inspection last season. We are going ahead with complete refurbishment of floodlights in early September at cost of almost £14,000. RFU funding has been secured to cover £6,000 and a further £3,000 has been raised through other sponsorship – most notably from the SCRUFFS for which the club is hugely grateful. We anticipate the work being complete by end of September.
EVENT DATES – these events are critical fund-raisers for your club. Please support them.
Saturday 19th September First home league fixture v Andover
Friday 25th September – Race Night
Saturday 10th October – Volunteers Day: 1st XV v O Wimbledonians, lunch and drinks reception for ALL club volunteers
Sunday 18th October – Camberley RFC mini festival
Friday 30th October – Ladies Night
After 2 months finances are running broadly on budget.
Bar trading is typically quite quiet during summer months, but Lydia has made great progress working with brewery to increase drink ranges and spruce up the bar. We are considering paying off remaining balance of brewery loan which will pave the way to negotiate more favourable terms across an expanded range.
Membership subscriptions now due and are held at last season’s levels. We will (under leadership of Gareth Jones) apply same strict rules as last season.
Utility costs remain a significant expense – MWC is exploring possible savings achievable via a switch of supplier
The Atrium Camberley now confirmed as a main club sponsor with Lucid Events hopefully to be confirmed again over next couple of weeks.
Following last year’s surplus and the prudent financial management approach in place, our cash flow situation is healthier than this time last year and even with tough targets for sponsorship and commercial activity, we remain confident we can deliver another year of surplus.
1st team squad numbers in pre-season are strong with very few departures and some encouraging recruitment activity. Full pre-season fixture list now in place and tour to Bude scheduled for weekend of 8th August
Letter now out to all members inviting them to come to President’s match on 29th August
Ladies need a coach – Andy Jackson helping out short-term, but all ideas welcome
Little to report close season, but everything in place for start of new season in September and numbers look set to grow again via promotional activities and word of mouth.
Camberley Mini festival set for Sunday 18th October
Governance – Replacement of all ceiling lights upstairs now done which completes all work required post Health & Safety inspection. Our electrical certificate should be issued very shortly. We are going ahead with complete refurbishment of floodlights in early September (subject to approval of RFU grant to cover 50% of the costs). To aid with the club portion of this investment the adult squads and older youth age groups will be asked to consider sponsorship/fund-raising events of their own in August/September and SCRUFFS are considering making a contribution.

· After 5 months finances are running broadly on budget.
o Bar trading is roughly flat on last year – remains an area for focus. Recent events have been a great success and well supported – more to come!
o Sponsorship revenues currently ahead thanks to several significant new sponsors and the full programme of England internationals. We need a strong 2nd half of season to reach the ambitious budget.
o Membership subscriptions being collected and running well ahead of last year (but slightly short of budget) – thanks to Gareth Jones, Membership Sec, and his team.
· The worrying cashflow situation, initially averted via the successful appeal in June, is now looking healthier as a result of the stringent and ambitious financial plan covering sponsorship, subscriptions and sales that is now taking shape. Good news, but only the first step and continued prudence and strong membership support required to avoid repetition.
· 1st team performances much improved this season, with playing numbers up substantially and the capability of fielding 3 sides regularly
· Several close, hard fought recent wins mean that 1st XV is now in the top half of the table.
· 2nd team have had several excellent performances but need regular fixtures and a manager.
· Marti Jerrard working hard and delivering good start to season for 3s. Also planning a number of vets games for a resurrected G&Ts side.
· Ladies having a much better year – unbeaten in first 5 games! Several new players means the numbers are looking more encouraging too.
· Membership numbers building beyond 300 with more to come – should be ahead of last years 410 fairly soon. Excellent intake of new kinders (currently running at approx 40)
· New team of Ian Russell, Tom Hazeldon and Dave Harvey making great progress including monthly youth meetings for coaches/managers. We still need more volunteers to assist in running and administrating youth section.
· POST MEETING NOTE - Oct 19th Festival was a huge success. Big thanks to James Smith. Attention needed on parking issues and catering capacity before next festival)

Financial
• After 11 months finances are tight and we are running behind budget.
o Bar trading has been well down on last year – not helped by lack of home league games. Planned events have been poorly supported – needs action/concerted push
o Sponsorship revenues down on previous years.
o Utility bills showing significant (unavoidable) year on year increase.
o Significant number of players and social membership subscription still outstanding – these are seriously overdue and (while we have an active chasing team in place) it is our intention to consider measures to prevent non-payers accessing club facilities.
• Financial sub group is working to identify and progress options to restructure/improve financial position. Target is to have firm strategy agreed before AGM.
Playing – Adult
• 1st team performances much improved, with 3 wins from last 4 almost complete!
• This season we have registered 42 new players of whom 28 have played 1st XV league.
• pre-season, including migration of U18s to senior teams already planned, along with expanded coaching team under Jon Cant (includes Russell Kirby, Graeme Fleming, Andy Walsh & Andy Hansford)
• Next season will see 3 senior sides playing regularly – all in league/merit tables.
• Ladies having tough year – relegation confirmed. More numbers needed. However, “things are looking up” after recent improved performances. Victory over L Welsh the target!
Playing – Youth
• U16 squad needs new head coach for next year – confirmation for current U15 & U16 squads of arrangements for next season (as part of integrated senior level coaching structure) due shortly.
• April 13th mini festival will be huge! Big thanks to James Smith. Come and support!
• 1st aid training all complete across all age groups
• New structure for youth management progressing – more news soon. We still need volunteers, however big or small the contribution you could make, please come forward.
Website – we urgently need one or two volunteers to assist with the writing and posting of reports and news to keep the website live and up to date. No great technology skills required, just a little time and commitment. If you can help please let me or an Exec member know.
EVENT DATES – these events are critical fund-raisers for your club. Please support them.
• End of Season Weekend (presentation night on Friday, men’s/youth 7s on Saturday & Ladies 10s on Sunday) planned for 25/26/27 April. Includes Club Dinner Sat 26th April

Mike Courtness presented a summary of financial position clearly demonstrating the difficulties we face - we are fundamentally unable to continue in this situation much longer.
A sub group has been formed to consider all potential financial options and the 08/09 budget will be reviewed in detail with respect to identifying all possible efficiencies.
